George Cohan was an entertainer, playwright, composer, lyricist, actor, singer, dancer and producer.

Lennie Niehaus performed with the Stan Kenton Orchestra 1952-1960 and won the Downbeat Magazine “New Start – Alto Sax” Award in 1955.

Harold Arlen wrote the music for The Wizard of Oz.

Vincent Youmans was born in 1898 in New York City into a prosperous family of hat makers. In 1927 began producing his own Broadway shows.

Duke Ellington's real first name was Edward.

Robert Crawford wrote the words and music of the Official Song of the United States Army Air Corps.

W.C. Handy was the son and grandson of Episcopalian ministers. While growing up he apprenticed in plastering, carpentry, and shoemaking.

George Gershwin often worked with his brother, Ira, a famous lyricist.
